Powered by our systems strengthening partner Plan International , Kenya, and covered by our media partner RADIO KAYA, today a powerful team of 18 facilitators from SambaSports Youth Agenda conducted Positive Parenting dialogues to Parents, and Life Skills trainings as well as Child protection trainings to Adolescent boys and girls in Lukore, Mkanda and Mwambalazi areas of Kwale County.
With the rising cases of indiscipline among the children, early pregnancies among the school going girls, experimenting with drugs and substance abuse in young boys and girls that lead to uncontrollable behaviour, parents have been left with very minimal solutions on how best they can manage themselves and their growing children.
The sessions today would go a long way into mitigating the growing vulnerabilities witnessed by parents, where more of their children fall to sociocultural trappings, messing up their talents, academics and killing their dreams.
The sessions brought together a total of 93 parents, being 24 male and 69 female parents.
The parents were taken through:
-Understanding yourself
-Understanding your children
-Alternative approach to discipline.
The sessions also engaged a total of 131 Adolescent Boys and Girls, being 29 boys and
The adolescent children were taken through:
-Lifeskill training
-Child Rights
Group assignments and group presentations, parents role plays plenary discussions, brainstorming sessions and questions & answers sessions formed most part of the positive parenting engagements.
The highly interactive mode of engagement enabled the parents to open up fully and contribute to a candid conversation that yielded chronic challenges and practical mitigation strategies.
In fact, the parents asked for more of the same dialogues and promised to be the champions for the positive parenting initiative in their villages.
The children were engaged more in exciting skits and games, brainstorming sessions and question and answer sessions as a an exciting model of learning.
We wish to extend our gratitude to Plan International, Kwale office, for allowing us to inspire and influence positive behaviour in young people. We also thank Radio Kaya far accepting to transcend our inspirational work across physical barriers and to inspire more souls far and wide through radio.
