At SambaSports, we believe that even the smallest actions can have a profound impact on the world around us. Recently, we organized an end of year bash for the Kwale County prisoners, and it turned out to be an event of county-level magnitude.
This was inspired by our continuous efforts over the year, where we conducted several Life Skills trainings and mental health awareness trainings to 30 prison officers, as well as 45 youthful prison inmates, giving them love, care and hope for better life in their future.
The bash! just started with a flicker of a simple idea of spreading love and care for the prison inmates. But as we shared our vision with others, it grew beyond our wildest dreams. The governor, county commissioner, police commander, AP commander, magistrates, and other high-level VVIPs joined us in our mission to give hope and encouragement to the inmates. Our rallying call, Mui Huwa Mwema, resonated with everyone present.
The event was filled with fun, joy, and excitement, and the inmates received sweet, lovely embraces from everyone. It was an astounding day that broke the glass ceilings of intermediate impact. We even slaughtered a cow and four sacks of rice for the love and care we wanted to extend to the prisoners.
But we didn’t stop there. To further support the prison community, we donated five cartons of bathing soap for all the 406 prison inmates and two sacks of washing detergent for the prison family. This small act of kindness brought smiles to many faces.
Moreover, Her Excellency, the Governor Fatma Achani-Kanga, generously donated 100,000 shillings to support the Prison’s decongestion program. This fund will be used to pay fines for various petty offenders who have demonstrated great behavioral transformation over time as we continue taking them through life skills training.
We would like to thank Team Samba, Team Power, and all our partners who have supported us in this journey. Together, we have proven that even the smallest actions can lead to great impact and change in our communities.
