Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health Induction (ASRHI-2) has been focusing on seeing how the adolescents are applying the life skills techniques learnt from Phase One. The participatory life skills training included Value Based Education (VBE) sessions, Group Discussions, Presentations and Demonstrations.
A total of 34 adolescents, 18 girls and 16 boys, were engaged in the (ASRHI-2) training session at Mkwakwani Primary School, Ukunda. The team was joined by a guest Facilitator, James atito —The Period MAN of Stretchers Youth Organization
The Period Man made a comprehensive presentation on Menstrual Hygiene with demonstrations on how to use the following:
- Disposable pads
- Re-usable pads (which one can wash)
- Menstrual cups(it’s in a cup shape)
- Tampons
- Corsets
- Hot water bottle used when one is experiencing backache or abdominal pains during periods.
The Period Man also emphasized that the adolescent males should be gentle and supportive to their female counterparts during menstruation. The boys vowed to never intimidated or make fun of the girls who are in that condition but instead be the first people to offer help when needed.
