SambaSports Youth Agenda Officially launched the GalPower Initiative by hosting the most Colourful all adolescent girls fun&games and life skills event dubbed The GalPoweran Fun Day at Diani Babla on Saturday 15th December 2018, from 8.00am to 4.00pm.The event brought together 240 adolescent girls from Ukunda, Diani and Tiwi Wards. The girls, coming from 12 different teams of 20 participants each, included 6 madrasas teams and 6 non madrasas teams. The non-madrasa teams included Bongwe, Mwakigwena, Mkwakwani and Shamu Primary schools.
The girls were glued to each other in a day full of fun, games and life skills sessions that found most of them engaged, playing each game or shouting in Support of their teams. The games played included:
- Football juggling in teams
- Ring dance in Teams
- Musical Chairs Game
- lengalenga game with tennis balls
- Balloon chase and burst game
- Sack Races in relay
- Filling the bottles games etc
The life skills discussions centred on Menstrual hygiene, Delaying sexual debuts, Preventing Drug Abuse and juvenile crime. The life skills sessions were coming after an hour of games, and each Sensitization session lasted 40 minutes. A total of 5 sessions were conducted.
Guest Speakers:
The sessions were facilitated by different speakers, including SambaSpirts lady role models like Ms Riziki Mwakusirikwa and Da Amina Chombo, Sabina Saiti from KWEA CBO; Diana Chitsaka- Mwangala and Team from the Gift a girl initiative, Kilifi; Zainab Chitsangi from Zainab Chitsangi Foundation, Hon Mishi Mayumbe, who is an inspirational nominated MCA, Kwale County, Area Assistant County Commissioner Madam Lucy, SCUSO team, Madam Mwanaisha Chairlady of the Board of Directors of Umma initiative, and the Chief Guest was The CEO, National Cohesion and Integration Commission, Mr. Mohamed Hassan.
Gifts:
All girls were given bathing soaps, tooth brushes and tooth pastes and exercise books with messages. The top five teams were given extra gifts including detergent soaps, Vaseline jellies, Panties and lotion.
The rallying call of the event was: Colouring the World of Young Girls.
