When it comes to making an impact, sometimes you have to go off the beaten path. That’s exactly what we did when we partnered with The Art of Living facilitator Nimrata Shah and Amani Kibera to spend a day at Kwale Gok Prisons with 100 inmates. Our goal was to help them learn to cope with their anger, stress, and wild emotions through purposeful breathing exercises.
It was a challenging but rewarding experience, as we saw firsthand the transformative power of mindfulness and meditation. Many of the inmates had never been exposed to these techniques before, but they were eager to learn and open to the possibilities.
Through our demonstration of the Kiswahili adage Mui Huwa Mwema, we were able to connect with the inmates on a deeper level and help them see that there is hope for a brighter future. By focusing on their breath and learning to control their thoughts and emotions, they were able to find a sense of peace and purpose that they had never experienced before.
But our work doesn’t stop there. We are committed to continuing our efforts to support the inmates and help them find the tools they need to succeed both in prison and beyond. We believe that everyone deserves a second chance, and we are proud to be part of the movement to create a more compassionate and just society.
