If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you mean to go far, go with others. This is mostly true in the Peacebuilding context.
In the spirit of strengthening collaboration among the Kwale Court Users Committee partners, where SambaSports Youth Agenda is a strategic partner, we reached out to the Kwale Courts Magistrates to join us in the Mbuzi party for the Semi-finalists for the Mbweka Integrated Soccer For Peace tournament, and they graciously accepted.
As we met Marika FC and Kombani Youth FC players, the two magistrates; Hon Lilian Lewa and Hon Kiongo joined us in slaughtering and skinning the goat. The Youth were left in awe that even magistrates could mingle with them that freely.
Later, we facilitated the two teams through a number of team building sessions, with peace dialogue interludes. Hon Kiongo got deeply involved in facilitating peace and cohesion discussions, while educating the youth on court processes, and what crimes bring the youth to court, and to prison, mostly.
When we took a break from the peace dialogues, Hon Lewa took the youth through key advice on how best to avoid being in conflict with the law, with a motherly voice. As if that wasn’t motherly enough, she went ahead and assisted in cooking the big ugali meal that was being prepared for the teams.
While showering praise after praise to the work that SambaSports does for the youth, Hon Lewa extended an olive branch to the Players to visit her court sessions in Kwale town to familiarize themselves better with the court processes.
