The toughest and most scaring thing for most people is making the first step. With so much uncertainties ahead, it is always deemed as a risk. The Fazil Chinoy Fellowship through SambaSports Youth Agenda has reasons to celebrate three months after making taking the first step forward. The feasting Quarterly Review Meeting held in a Cave at Aramesh in Funzi Island—where our mentor, Dr. Rafique Keshavjee, resides.

Both Tuwajali Wajane Initiative as spearheaded by Mwanasha Gaserego, and Intellectual Literacy and Leadership Program as led by Amani Nuri. The quarterly targets for both initiatives were met by a bigger margin comparing to the annual objectives of both programs.
Tuwajali Wajane Initiative has given vulnerable widows more reasons to smile and hope for a better future. One of the beneficiaries present at the review meeting mentioned, “I feel so contented and believe in myself. I was worried and anxious but now other people question my widow status because this program has transformed my life.” She went on to explain how the program has helped her with her school going children who are studying through scholarships.

Intellectual Literacy and Leadership Program has so far given students confidence and boosted their self esteem. The students can express themselves and speak about their dreams. Over the past quarter, the program has been keen on helping the students change their attitudes towards English speaking and learning in general. “I see progress in academics because before this program, I used to hate English speaking. That has changed and consider myself on track towards academic exercise,” Nuru Chapu from Kaya Tiwi High School mentioned.

This meeting was uniquely held as people celebrated with a goat meat feasting. Later, we held a catch up meeting with the donors where Dr. Rafique gave glowing feedback of the priceless work done hitherto. We thank Shehnaz Chinoy and Carl Pope for the trust and the support in lifting the dreams of young social entrepreneurs in Kwale County, through SambaSports Youth Agenda .
